2019 Honda CR-V Bests Subaru Forester in Car and Driver Head-to-Head Comparison Test

The 2019 Honda CR-V continues to beat out its rivals, with Car and Driver declaring it the winner in its latest compact SUV head-to-head comparison test against the 2019 Subaru Forester.

Article Quote
“Both are excellent examples of modern compact SUVs. But the Honda is more powerful and satisfying to operate as a vehicle while remaining perfectly agreeable, which is a quality we appreciate even in basic driving appliances. Along with its well-rounded list of attributes, that’s enough for the CR-V to edge out the Forester in our ranking of the segment.”

2019 Honda CR-V Wins Car and Driver Head-to-Head SUV Comparison Test

The 2019 Honda CR-V has beat out its newest rival in a Car and Driver head-to-head comparison test in which Car and Drivereditors pitted the CR-V against its newest rival, the 2019 Toyota RAV4.

“In this matchup, the Honda simply provides a better value and is our choice over the Toyota. While the RAV4 is slightly more distinctive in appearance and a bit more tech-forward with its sharper touchscreen interface, the CR-V makes up for its lack of style with impressive substance. The Honda provides more space, better engine performance, and plenty of features, all for less money than the Toyota. That’s a winning formula as much today as it was when the CR-V first hit the scene more than 20 years ago.”

2019 Honda Clarity Fuel Cell Arrives at Select Dealerships

  • Clarity Fuel Cell received a 360-mile driving range rating and offers quick refueling
  • Vehicle qualifies for $5,000 California state rebate, single-occupant HOV access
  • Honda intends for electrified vehicles to comprise two-thirds of its global automobile sales by 2030

Arriving at select dealerships in California beginning April 16, 2019, the 2019 Honda Clarity Fuel Cell received an emissions-free 360-mile driving range rating1 and offers quick refueling at an exceptionally competitive lease price of $379 per month. The Clarity’s spacious and sophisticated interior offers ample room for five, and every Clarity Fuel Cell comes standard with advanced technology, such as the Honda Sensing® suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies, and Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ smartphone integration.

“The Clarity Fuel Cell is a compelling choice for customers who want to be on the leading edge of our low-carbon future in a practical vehicle, with premium features and at no compromise to range or refueling times,” said Steven Center, vice president of auto sales at American Honda Motor Co., Inc.

The 2019 Clarity Fuel Cell has a 360 mile EPA driving range rating, making it one of the highest rated zero-emission light-duty vehicles in America, including fuel cell and battery electric vehicles. In addition, the Clarity Fuel Cell received a 68 MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent) EPA combined fuel economy rating1, the highest rating for any light-duty fuel cell vehicle sold in America, and can be refueled in approximately three to five minutes using 70 MPa refueling stations.

Retail leasing of the Clarity Fuel Cell is available through a network of 12 approved Honda dealerships in select California markets, including six dealerships in Southern California (Los Angeles and Orange County areas), five in the San Francisco Bay Area, and one in the Sacramento area. The Clarity Fuel Cell offers a competitive lease price of $379 per month for 36 months with $2,878 due at signing2 with California customers eligible for a $5,000 rebate3. The lease terms include an attractive mileage allowance of 20,000 miles per year, up to $15,000 of hydrogen fuel, up to 21 days of access to a luxury vehicle from Avis while in California, 24/7 roadside assistance, and eligibility for California’s Clean Air Vehicle Stickers to allow single-occupant HOV access4.

Honda has invested more than $14 million in California’s hydrogen refueling network.  With nearly 40 retail hydrogen stations across the state, it’s now more convenient than ever before to quickly refuel the Clarity Fuel Cell. Honda intends for electrified vehicles to comprise two-thirds of its global automobile sales by 2030. In North America, the Honda Electrification Initiative will see Honda’s electrified powertrain technologies applied to an expanding portfolio of cars and light trucks in the years ahead. Honda’s electrified vehicle lineup today includes the Clarity series, along with the Accord Hybrid and Insight.

Honda Clarity Series
As the next progression of Honda’s dynamic styling for electrified products, each model in the Clarity series – Clarity Plug-in Hybrid, Clarity Fuel Cell and Clarity Electric – has a low, wide aerodynamic body with unique design elements, including differentiated front styling, headlights, tail lamps and 18-inch alloy wheel designs. Each Clarity series vehicle also boasts a spacious interior with comfortable seating for five adults, outfitted with premium, environmentally responsible materials.

Offering Honda’s “fun-to-drive” DNA, each Clarity variant provides a refined driving experience, aided by the smooth and seamless character of electric drive torque and acceleration. The Clarity series features advanced technologies, including Display Audio with Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay® integration, and the full suite of Honda Sensing® safety and driver-assistive technologies.

With three different powertrains and luxury packaging, this shared “3-in-1” platform strategy is enabling Honda to respond to infrastructure and market developments, provide customers nationwide with an ultra-low carbon vehicle that meets their lifestyle needs, and will take Honda toward higher volume sales of advanced powertrain products that will help reduce CO2 emissions.

2019 Honda Passport Wins Car and Driver Midsize Two-Row SUV Vehicle Comparison Test

The all-new 2019 Honda Passport bested four midsize two-row SUV competitors in Car and Driver’s “Meat in the Middle” comparison test featured in the April 2019 edition of the magazine.

Article Quote
“Snappy shifts and the V-6’s 280 horsepower produced the best zero-to-60, quarter-mile, and 50-to-70 passing times in the group, even as the Passport earned the best observed fuel economy. And despite being the tallest competitor, the Honda still compelled us to drive it quickly, courtesy of its light, accurate steering and goes-where-it’s-pointed response… The Passport is a picture of pragmatic service largely thanks to enormous interior space. Its pillars are thin and pushed far away, its greenhouse is massive, and it provides the most cargo volume here. Not only is the room ample, but Honda makes the best use of it by incorporating creative small-item storage throughout. If you’re looking in the middle of crossover land for some real meat, the Passport has the most to offer.”

Honda “Crashes” New York International Auto Show with 2019 Honda HR-V

  • Honda is showcasing its achievement in safety performance, including the display of a HR-V crash tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS)
  • Honda highlights its commitment to safety rating leadership at all price points
  • 2019 HR-V is one of seven Honda models to earn an IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK rating when equipped with Honda Sensing® technology and certain headlights
  • HR-V earns top “Good” rating in all six IIHS crashworthiness tests and a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from NHTSA

The New York International Auto Show draws more than 1 million consumers each year to see the hundreds of bright, shiny vehicles. For the first time at an auto show, Honda will display a refreshed 2019 HR-V that recently was safety crash tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The emotional display of the HR-V showcases what a vehicle endures in a crash (and what it looks like after), including the structural strength and airbag deployment, highlighting the progression of safety technology. The HR-V exhibits safety rating leadership at an affordable price, starting at $20,520.

“Safety performance is an important factor in the purchase decision of most car buyers regardless of vehicle size or price, and we wanted to display how well our entry SUV, the Honda HR-V, performed in one of the most stringent collision tests in the world,” said Henio Arcangeli, Jr., senior vice president of Automobile Sales at American Honda Motor Co., Inc. and general manager of the Honda Division. “By having a crashed HR-V on display at the New York Auto Show, media and consumers will be able to see first-hand how the HR-V performed in the IIHS test, with dramatic, real-world visuals to showcase our safety rating leadership and our commitment to Safety for Everyone.”

The affordable 2019 HR-V subcompact crossover, equipped with Honda’s proprietary Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure, has earned the highest available rating of “Good” in all six IIHS crashworthiness tests, and has been named an IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK when equipped with Honda Sensing® technology and certain headlights. ACE™ body structure absorbs the violent forces of a crash, reducing the likelihood of injury to vehicle occupants. All 2019 HR-V models achieve “Good” ratings for driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side impact, roof strength, and head restraints and seats, along with a “Superior” rating for front crash prevention when equipped with available Honda Sensing®.

The HR-V on display was safety crash tested in the IIHS driver-side small overlap front test. This test is designed to replicate what happens when the front left corner of a vehicle collides with another vehicle or an object like a tree or utility pole. This crash test is a challenge for some safety belt and airbag designs because occupants move both forward and toward the side of the vehicle. During this test, the HR-V traveled at 40 mph toward a 5-foot-tall rigid barrier.

Honda has seven 2019 model-year vehicles — Insight, Accord1, HR-V2, CR-V2, Pilot2, Odyssey2 and Ridgeline2 – that earned a TOP SAFETY PICK or TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating from IIHS. Further, all 2019 model-year Honda vehicles that have been fully tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA) have earned a top 5-star Overall Vehicle Score, 11 models in total.

In addition to the ACE™ body structure, and advanced seatbelt and airbag system that are applied to all new Honda vehicles, the Honda Sensing® suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies is now standard or available on all Honda nameplates, and more than 80 percent of 2019 model-year Honda vehicles sold in the U.S. are equipped with these potentially life-saving technologies. Honda Sensing® technology is already in nearly 2 million vehicles on U.S. roads today, and includes Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™); Forward Collision Warning; Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) incorporating Lane Departure Warning (LDW); Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS); and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC).

The 2019 New York International Auto Show is open to the public April 19 – April 28 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. In addition to the IIHS safety crash tested HR-V, Honda will display its best-selling models like Civic, Accord and CR-V, plus the all-new Passport SUV.
