2019 Honda Odyssey, Accord and CR-V Named “Best Family Cars of 2019” by Edmunds.com

The 2019 Honda Odyssey, Accord and CR-V have each been recognized as best-in-class by Edmunds.com on their just-published list of “Best Family Cars of 2019.”

The 2019 Odyssey won for Best Family Minivan, with Edmunds.com editors citing Odyssey’s Magic Slide™ seats, Cabin Watch™ and Honda VAC® among its many family-friendly features. The 2019 Accord won as Best Family Sedan thanks in part to its roomy interior and trunk, and standard Honda Sensing® suite of active safety and driver assist systems. The 2019 CR-V’s class-leading cargo space, Honda Sensing® availability, excellent fuel efficiency, and available hands-free rear liftgate helped it win the Best Small Family SUV category.

Edmunds.com editors select the winners of Best Family Car after an extensive, engineer-led vehicle testing and rating process that used more than 30 criteria in the five main areas of driving performance, comfort, interior, utility and technology. Edmunds also considered the availability of safety, technology and convenience features designed with families in mind.

Honda Accord and Odyssey Earn 2019 Edmunds Best Retained Value Awards

The 2019 Honda Accord and Honda Odyssey topped the Midsize Car and Minivan categories in Edmunds’ 2019 Best Retained Value Awards, delivering the highest projected resale value after five years of ownership. Higher retained value helps reduce the long-term cost of vehicle ownership, putting money back in the owner’s pocket when it comes time to sell or trade-in a vehicle. The Honda Accord and Odyssey are the retail best-selling midsize car and minivan in 2019.

“With a well-deserved reputation for making high quality, reliable vehicles, Honda is a mainstay on the Edmunds Best Retained Value list year-after-year,” said Richard Arca, associate director for pricing at Edmunds. “We continue to see car buyers pay a premium for Honda vehicles because they are good bets to hold their value over the course of ownership.”

Statement by American Honda Regarding SRS Control Unit Recall: 2019 Honda Insight, Odyssey and Ridgeline

  • 118 vehicles are affected; recall only in the United States
  • SRS Control Units will be replaced, free of charge
  • Issue discovered during quality control check at the control unit vendor; No customer reports related to this issue

Honda will voluntarily recall 118 model-year 2019 Insight, Odyssey and Ridgeline vehicles, only in the United States, to replace Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Control Units, free of charge. A circuit board on the affected SRS Control Units may have been damaged during production. A damaged SRS Control Unit may not properly deploy the side, side curtain and knee airbags and seat belt pre-tensioners during a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Honda has received no customer reports related to this issue, which was discovered during quality control checks at the vendor.

Honda is announcing this recall to encourage owners of affected vehicles to take them to an authorized dealer as soon as possible for the free repair. Mailed notification to owners of affected vehicles will occur in late-November 2018. Owners of these models can also determine if their vehicles require repair now by visiting www.recalls.honda.com or by calling (888) 234-2138.

2019 Honda Odyssey is Top Minivan in IIHS Passenger-Side Small Overlap and LATCH Testing

  • Odyssey is the only tested minivan to earn a IIHS “GOOD” rating for both the driver and passenger sides in IIHS’ strenuous Small Overlap Front Crash Test
  • Odyssey is the only tested minivan to earn a IIHS “GOOD+” rating for ease of child seat installation using LATCH attachment points

The 2019 Honda Odyssey leads all tested minivans in recent ratings by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), including being the only minivan to achieve a “GOOD” rating for both the driver and passenger sides in IIHS’ strenuous Small Overlap Front Crash Test. In addition, the institute recognized Odyssey with its top rating of “GOOD+” in its testing of Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) to determine the relative ease to safely install child safety seats in a vehicle. No other tested minivan earned above an “ACCEPTABLE” rating from IIHS in LATCH testing.

Odyssey qualifies as a 2018 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK when equipped with available Honda Sensing® and LED headlights. Honda Sensing is now standard on EX and above trims, accounting for 99 percent of 2019 Odyssey sales.1

“Minivan buyers list safety as one of their greatest purchase considerations, and the Odyssey continues to be a top performer in independent safety ratings, further distancing itself from segment competitors,” said Ray Mikiciuk, assistant vice president of Honda Automobile Sales. “If you’re in the market for a minivan and you care about safety, there is simply no better choice than the Honda Odyssey.”

A small overlap crash occurs when just the front corner of the vehicle strikes another vehicle or an object such as a tree or utility pole. IIHS began rating vehicles for occupant protection in a driver-side small overlap front crash in 2012 and added the passenger-side test in 2017 to make sure occupants on both sides of the vehicle get equal protection.

LATCH is a system of attachment hardware for child restraints that is intended to simplify installation. Child restraints installed with LATCH are more likely to be put in correctly than restraints installed using the vehicle safety belt, IIHS research has shown.

According to IIHS, even with LATCH, installation errors are common. The Institute’s LATCH ratings are based on key ease-of-use criteria that have been shown to minimize mistakes in installing lower attachment straps and top tethers. The top tether keeps the child seat from pitching forward in a crash, and all forward-facing restraints need them.

Among 2018-19 minivans evaluated, the Odyssey was the only one to earn a “GOOD+” rating for LATCH ease of use. The “GOOD+” rating is for vehicles that meet the criteria for a “GOOD” rating and provide additional seating positions with easy-to- use LATCH hardware. The eight-passenger 2019 Odyssey offers five LATCH-equipped seating positions, three in the second row and two in the third row.
